Gravel pit accident claims life A 53-year-old Logan man was killed Friday night when he was run over and crushed by a top loader. According to Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Kim Cheshire, the accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. at the Wellsville gravel pit. The man, whose name was not released Friday night pending family notification, was crushed to death when the driver of the top loader apparently failed to notice him near the vehicle. “The driver's in shock,” Cheshire said. At 10:30 p.m., sheriff's investigators were still piecing together information about the cause of the accident. The driver, who doesn't speak English, was taken to Logan Regional Hospital to be treated for shock. He suffered no other injuries, Cheshire said. An interpreter was sent to the hospital to interview the driver. A local medical examiner was called to the scene, Cheshire said. Deputies and investigators were also waiting for a state medical examiner from Salt Lake to arrive. The man's body was expected to be transported to the Salt Lake Medical Examiner's Office Friday night, Cheshire said. |
